The Major Crimes Investigation Agency (MCIA) will be launched in October and is expected to investigate seven major crimes, including corruption, economic crimes, and crimes related to defense projects. The MCIA will consist of 2,567 investigators and 307 general civil servants for a total of 2,874 personnel. Dedicated and joint investigation departments by crime type will be established in each regional office. A dedicated organization has also been set up to handle requests for supplementary investigations from prosecutors, and a review procedure by external experts has been introduced to ensure the legality of investigations. Public participation is possible in the recommendation of candidates for MCIA director, and prosecutors and investigators currently working in the prosecution service can transfer to the MCIA without taking an exam.
