The ruling party welcomed this as "the completion of prosecutorial reform," but the opposition expressed criticism, worrying about the weakening of victim protection and calling it a deterioration. President Lee Jae-myung had previously mentioned the need to maintain some supplementary investigative powers for prosecutors, but he decided to respect the National Assembly's decision in order to avoid political controversy. The Cabinet also approved the Enforcement Decree of the Special Prosecutor Act for Election Interference and the Special Act for Semiconductors.
