An avalanche occurred at Broad Peak (8,47m) in Pakistan, resulting in the death of ten climbers, including renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja. Purja, a former British Army Gurkha soldier, was famous for conquering all 14 peaks above 8,000m in the Himalayas in a record-breaking six months in 2019. The climbers were attempting to summit from a height of 6,600m when they were caught in an avalanche and swept down the mountainside, resulting in their deaths. Broad Peak is the world's twelfth highest mountain and is known for its challenging climbing routes.
