The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have attacked two oil tankers that were attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz with air cover from the US military. Iran accused the US Central Command of using deception tactics to force the tankers onto an illegal route and strongly warned against US intervention. Citing a ceasefire agreement reached last month, Iran argues that it has control over the Strait of Hormuz and is designating its own shipping lanes. In response, the US conducted airstrikes on Iran, which retaliated by attacking US military bases in the Middle East, further escalating tensions.
