The Democratic Party plans to put a bill to amend the Criminal Procedure Act to completely abolish the supplementary investigative power of prosecutors to a vote in the plenary session of the National Assembly on July 31st. This is in accordance with the principle of separating investigation and prosecution, and it eliminates the prosecutor's direct investigative authority and stipulates that the police must complete the investigation within a maximum of two months when requested by the prosecutor for supplementary investigation. The People Power Party opposed this bill and conducted a filibuster, but it was automatically terminated due to the end of the July extraordinary session of the National Assembly. In addition, an amendment bill to the National Assembly Act that shortens the review period for fast-track agenda items has been proposed, and it is expected to be put to a vote in the August extraordinary session despite opposition from the People Power Party.
