Following the deaths of Kim Seong-do and Kim Shin-yeol, known as Dokdo guardians, Dokdo is now without residents. Ulleung County plans to renovate the Seodo Residents' House where the couple lived and recruit new residents. However, while the county has requested that bereaved family members clear out belongings for the renovation, some family members have expressed their intention to reside on Dokdo and are opposing the request. Ulleung County plans to organize belongings through administrative enforcement measures and will determine a schedule for recruiting residents in the future. Currently, only coast guard personnel and staff from the Ulleung County Dokdo Management Office stay on Dokdo, but since there is no official address, there are no actual residents.
