Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, the Bank of Korea supplied approximately 5.0638 trillion won in cash to financial institutions over 10 days. This represents an increase of approximately 407.7 billion won compared to the same period last year. According to a Bank of Korea official, the increased currency issuance is due to the Lunar New Year holiday period expanding from 3 days to 6 days following the designation of temporary public holidays. To prepare for increased cash demand during the Lunar New Year holiday, the Bank of Korea supplies cash to financial institutions every year ahead of the Lunar New Year.
