Same-sex marriage becomes legal in Thailand starting from the 23rd. This is the first case in Southeast Asia and the third in Asia, following Taiwan and Nepal. Thailand's parliament passed the Marriage Equality Act last year, which was also approved by the king. The new law allows anyone aged 18 or older, regardless of gender, to register for marriage and grants same-sex couples the same rights as heterosexual couples, including inheritance, tax deductions, and adoption. The Thai government will accept marriage registrations from same-sex couples at administrative offices nationwide and plans to hold events celebrating marriage equality.
