Discussions on improving the minimum wage system in Korea have intensified. This is because conflicts between labor and management repeatedly occur during the annual minimum wage determination process, and the diversification of employment forms due to the spread of AI and platform industries has exposed the limitations of the existing system. In order to address the problem that contract workers are excluded from the application of the minimum wage, the Ministry of Labor plans to commission a research project to explore ways to rationalize the criteria for determining the minimum wage and improve its operation methods. The possibility of applying industry-specific classifications will also be examined, and issues related to the composition of the current Minimum Wage Commission will also be discussed. The Ministry of Labor plans to form a 'Minimum Wage System Improvement Task Force' in the latter half of this year to accelerate system improvements.
