Former President Yoon Seok-yeol was sentenced to two years in prison for allegedly receiving free opinion polls from political broker Myung Tae-kyun. The court ruled that Kim Kun-hee played a key role in bringing about "consensus" between former President Yoon and Mr. Myung. Ms. Kim met with Mr. Myung and conveyed the details of the opinion poll provision to former President Yoon, and was judged to have performed an organic role beyond that of a spouse by coordinating schedules for events with Mr. Myung. Although Ms. Kim was acquitted in both the first and second trials, the special prosecution team led by Min Jung-gi submitted a petition to the Supreme Court to review the first instance ruling against former President Yoon and requested a postponement of the date of Ms. Kim's appeal trial. The outcome of Ms. Kim's appeal trial is expected to influence the conclusion of former President Yoon's appeal.
