The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials has arrested President Yoon Suk-yeol on suspicion of being a ringleader of insurrection. This marks the first time in constitutional history that an incumbent president has been arrested by a state investigative agency. President Yoon is accused of inciting riots aimed at undermining the Constitution through his declaration of emergency martial law last month, the blocking of the National Assembly, and the arrest of politicians and election officials. After President Yoon failed to respond to three summons, the Corruption Investigation Office requested an arrest warrant, which was issued by the Seoul Western District Court with a validity period of one week.
