A 30-kilometer-long sea fence constructed on Indonesia's Tangerang coast has become controversial. Fisherman group JRP claims the fence was voluntarily built by local residents to prevent coastal erosion. However, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) sealed the fence because it was constructed without a KKPRL permit. JRP explains that the fence serves as a coastal breakwater, reducing the impact of large waves, preventing erosion, and providing mitigation functions against tsunamis. The group also emphasized that the surrounding area could be utilized as a fishing ground, providing economic opportunities for local residents. The KKP stated that using marine space without a permit is illegal and that no KKPRL permit application has yet been received from JRP.
