The Democratic Party of Korea is facing controversy over whether to introduce a preferential voting system in the party leader election at its general assembly on August 17th. The General Assembly Preparation Committee decided to introduce the preferential voting system, but the side of Jung Cheong-rae, the former representative and current frontrunner, opposed it, pointing out the possibility of violating the party constitution and rules. The Supreme Council meeting failed to reach a conclusion due to disagreements between the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction and the pro-Jung Cheong-rae faction. Whether or not to introduce the preferential voting system is expected to be finally confirmed through the Supreme Council meeting and the Party Affairs Committee.
