Indonesia has been approved as an official member of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). Brazil announced that Indonesia's membership was approved unanimously at the BRICS summit held in South Africa in 2023. Indonesia is expected to support global governance reforms and contribute to deepening Global South cooperation with other BRICS member states. BRICS was established to promote the multipolarization of the world economy and strengthen cooperation among developing countries. Recently, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates have joined as additional member states. BRICS accounts for a significant portion of global population and GDP and plays an important role in the global economic and political order.
