HMPV is a virus discovered in 2001 that belongs to the same genus as RSV and causes upper and lower respiratory tract infections across all age groups. It can have serious effects, particularly on young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. HMPV is transmitted through secretions released via coughing and sneezing, or through direct contact. Symptoms are similar to respiratory infections, including cough, runny nose, and fever, and in severe cases can lead to bronchitis or pneumonia. Currently, there are no specific antiviral medications, and conservative treatment for symptom relief is the primary approach. To prevent HMPV infection, it is important to practice proper hand hygiene, air ventilation, disinfection, immune system strengthening, and social distancing.
