Asus Announces ROG Strix XG34WCDMS 34-inch Ultrawide 280Hz 5th Generation QD-OLED Panel
Following the announcement of the ROG Swift PG34WCDN monitor, a flagship model announced today, Asus has unveiled the XG34WCDMS, a new model in the ROG Strix lineup. This product is another 34-inch ultrawide model equipped with a new 5th Gen QD-OLED panel, featuring a relatively lower 280Hz refresh rate and a more mainstream feature set. Like the PG34WCDN model, it applies the latest RGB-stripe pixel layout for improved text and image clarity, and features a 'BlackShield Film' coating for improved black depth and scratch resistance.
5th-Gen QD-OLED Panel and 'BlackShield Film'
We are particularly delighted to see Samsung Display's new 5th-Gen Tandem QD-OLED panel technology being utilized in this model as part of the 2026 panel lineup. Samsung Display no longer prefers to refer to panels by generation, but there are significant changes worthy of the 'Gen 5' designation we've used.
This new panel features for the first time a true RGB stripe pixel arrangement (Samsung Display calls this 'V-stripe'), which enhances image and text clarity and eliminates the fringing issue that affected previous QD-OLED monitor panels.
The display also includes a coating that Asus calls 'BlackShield Film', which enables deeper blacks in bright indoor environments and reduces the purple tint that affected older panel models. This is actually a coating applied by Samsung Display at the panel level, and 'BlackShield Film' is the brand name Asus has given to it. It is similar to what MSI calls 'DarkArmor' on their equivalent monitor.
Panel hardness has also increased from 2H to 3H, providing better scratch resistance and durability. Note that while this new coating has also been applied to the recently announced 2026 32-inch QD-OLED monitors, the new V-stripe / RGB stripe sub-pixel layout has not been applied to those models.
For much more information on the new panel development, please check our full review of the ROG Swift PG34WCDN model. It provides much more detailed information about how this panel measured in our testing.
The new 5th Gen QD-OLED panel uses the latest EL 3.0 OLED material (also applied to 4th generation panels) to deliver improved brightness, and has achieved 300 nits SDR luminance and True Black 500 certification for HDR. It also includes peak brightness specifications that have increased to 1300 nits for the first time in HDR.

Asus Announces ROG Swift PG27UCWM with 27-inch 4K Tandem WOLED Panel and RGB-stripe Pixel Layout
Asus recently teased the arrival of this display on social media channels, and now they are officially unveiling information about this exciting new OLED monitor at CES this week. The ROG Swift PG27UCWM is based on LG Display's brand-new 4th generation Tandem WOLED panel and features a new 27-inch display. This size of panel technology offers "4K" resolution (3840 x 2160) for the first time, and also introduces an RGB-stripe subpixel layout for the first time. This is designed to provide improved text and image clarity compared to previous RGWB panels, and combined with a high pixel density of approximately 166 PPI, will deliver stunning image sharpness and crispness. The display offers a 240Hz base refresh rate and a dual-mode (dual-mode) function that allows the refresh rate to be increased up to 480Hz at lower 1080p resolutions.
Asus ROG Swift PG27UCWM Specifications
This display measures 26.5 inches (27-inch class) and has a flat form factor. It is based on LG Display's 4th generation Primary RGB Tandem WOLED panel, which they now simply call 'Tandem WOLED'. It offers "4K" resolution (3840 x 2160), 166 PPI pixel density, 0.03ms G2G response time, 99% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, 10-bit color depth, and factory calibration with Delta E < 2.
Other specifications are not currently listed, but information provided by LG Display indicates that this display will meet the VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black certification. Asus has confirmed through their specification slide (referenced above) that it will support both standard HDR10 content and Dolby Vision HDR content.
The display offers a 240Hz base refresh rate along with a dual-mode function that allows the refresh rate to be increased up to 480Hz at lower 1080p resolutions. Adaptive-sync supports VRR for compatible systems.
RGB-stripe Layout and Brightness Specifications
Using an RGB-stripe subpixel structure without the addition of white subpixels and a significantly increased pixel density, the brightness may not be as high as LG Display's other recently released Tandem WOLED panels. Asus has not listed brightness specifications, but according to LG Display, this panel will offer 250 nits brightness in SDR mode, and in HDR mode, it will provide a peak brightness of 1000 nits (1.5% APL), 500 nits at 10% APL, and 250 nits at 100% APL.
Now that only RGB subpixels are available, it provides an "additive" approach to color brightness, which means you can achieve a higher color volume in HDR. In other words, colors are maintained even at maximum brightness. This works differently from previous WOLED panels that used white pixels to increase brightness, which could lead to color washing out or "volumetric collapse" when considering HDR color volume in low APL scenes. Asus stated that it "provides up to 27% wider color volume at particularly high luminance levels, delivering richer and more vibrant colors to gamers."
Design and Connectivity
While this display is somewhat similar to the ROG Swift PG27AQWP-W seen at the end of last year, it features a new design aesthetic with a black finish instead of silver. It will include Asus' OLED Care Pro feature and Neo Proximity Sensor, as well as modern connectivity including 1x DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR20 rated) and 1x USB type-C (DP alt mode and 90W power delivery support). HDMI 2.1 will also be supported. Although not listed in the press release, it is expected that this lineup, like other recent OLED models, will include a KVM switch and PiP/PbP functionality.
Additional Information
Information regarding pricing and release dates is still pending, but we will provide more details about this display and Asus' other models during our full CES coverage later this week.
