MSI, 34" Ultra-wide 360Hz 5th Generation QD-OLED MPG 341CQR X36 Details

MSI has unveiled a new MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 ahead of today's CES 2026 product showcase. This product is a 34-inch ultra-wide display based on Samsung Display's latest 5th generation QD-OLED panel technology, featuring 3440 x 1440 resolution and 360Hz refresh rate. Samsung Display confirmed a few days ago that this panel is currently in mass production. This new product includes various updates, including a true RGB stripe sub-pixel array applied for the first time to improve text clarity, new coating that enhances black depth and scratch resistance, and increased SDR and HDR brightness.

5th Generation QD-OLED Panel and 'DarkArmor' Coating

We are particularly pleased to see that the new 5th generation tandem QD-OLED panel technology, which is part of Samsung Display's 2026 panel lineup, has been applied to this model. While Samsung Display no longer prefers to refer to panels by generation, there are significant changes that match the '5th generation' designation we used.

This panel features a true RGB stripe pixel array for the first time (Samsung Display calls it "V-stripe"), which increases image and text clarity and eliminates the color fringing issue that was a problem in previous QD-OLED monitor panels.

Additionally, this display includes a coating that MSI calls 'DarkArmor' and an optimized panel structure, which implement deeper blacks even in bright indoor environments and reduce the purple tint that appeared in previous panels. This is actually a coating applied by Samsung Display at the panel stage, and 'DarkArmor' is the brand name given by MSI. It is similar to how ASUS named 'BlackShield Film' on their identical monitor.

The panel's hardness has also been increased from 2H to 3H, providing better scratch resistance and durability. Please note that this new coating has also been applied to recently announced 2026 32-inch QD-OLED monitors, but the new V-stripe/RGB stripe sub-pixel array was not applied to those models.

For more information about the new panel development, please check our full review. It provides much more detailed information about how this panel performed in testing.

The new 5th generation QD-OLED panel uses the latest EL 3.0 OLED material (also used in 4th generation panels) to provide enhanced brightness and has achieved SDR luminance of 300 nits and True Black 500 certification for HDR. It also includes a new specification of 1300 nits peak brightness for the first time in HDR.

Console Mode + HDMI™ 2.1

HDMI™ 2.1 provides maximum bandwidth of 48Gbps and supports VRR and ALLM to deliver smoother and lower latency console gaming at up to 120Hz. Through built-in HDMI™ CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) technology, the monitor can communicate with the controller to turn on the monitor with the controller and adjust modes for various devices.
