Can you use all the new features of Final Cut Pro for Mac without a subscription? Here's Apple's answer.

Apple has confirmed that it will continue to sell Final Cut Pro for Mac for a one-time price of $299.99. But will this one-time purchase version receive all the new features coming in the future?

In an interview with CineD, a digital film production news website, Bryan O’Neil Hughes, Apple's marketing manager, said that both the one-time purchase version and the 'Apple Creator Studio' subscription version will include new 'intelligent' features such as Visual Search, Transcript Search, and Beat Detection. However, his statement did not clearly confirm whether all future intelligent features would be applied 100% identically to both versions. We have requested an official response from Apple and will update the content as soon as we receive a reply.

What is currently known for sure is that, as stated on the Apple website, the one-time purchase version of Final Cut Pro for Mac will not be able to use some 'premium content'.

"While the one-time purchase option remains available, some premium content will only be available to Apple Creator Studio subscribers. Customers who already own Final Cut Pro will continue to receive updates."

In the interview, Hughes said that both the one-time purchase version and the Creator Studio version would continue to be updated and "would work as expected," but Apple did not explicitly confirm that the functions of the two versions would always match 100%. For now, it appears that the only thing one-time buyers will miss out on is 'premium content'.

On the other hand, for Logic Pro and MainStage, Apple's website clearly promises functional equivalence regardless of whether it is a subscription or a one-time purchase.

"Logic Pro and MainStage have the same functionality, whether they are subscription-based or one-time purchases. "

However, for other apps included in the Creator Studio bundle, such as Pixelmator Pro, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, and Freeform, there are expected to be some 'intelligent' features that will only be available without a subscription. This makes the situation somewhat ambiguous.

For example, only Creator Studio subscribers among Pixelmator Pro users will be able to use the new 'Warp' tool, which allows them to twist and deform image layers.

For Keynote, Pages, and Numbers apps, subscribers will have access to a new 'Content Hub' with high-quality photos and graphics, as well as premium templates and themes. Apple also said that the Freeform app will be updated with 'intelligent' features for subscribers later this year.

Keynote, Numbers, Pages, and Freeform were originally free apps, but they are now effectively transitioning to a 'Freemium' model. Fortunately, Apple has guaranteed that all four apps will continue to receive regular new features and updates even without a subscription.

Ultimately, the introduction of the 'Creator Studio' bundle has created inconsistencies in functionality between apps, complicating the user experience. Customers who prefer not to subscribe are expressing disappointment. While Apple's continued sale of the one-time purchase version may alleviate some concerns, this change is not being welcomed by everyone.

Apple Creator Studio will be launched on Wednesday, January 28th, and will be priced at $12.99 per month or $129.99 per year in the United States.
