The iPhone 18 series is expected to consist of three models: iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Initially, the industry expectation was that Samsung Display and LG Display would supply LTPO+ OLED panels for the Pro models, while BOE would supply LTPO OLED panels for the base model.

However, according to a report recently disclosed through Chinese Weibo, Apple's display maximum brightness requirements for the iPhone 18 series exceed BOE's current technological level, and analyses suggest that BOE is at risk of being excluded from the supply chain. It is evaluated that Samsung Display and LG Display, which have relatively superior technological competitiveness, are in a more advantageous position.

This suggests the possibility that the iPhone 18 series will feature a brighter display than its predecessor. For reference, the iPhone 17 series supports a standard maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, HDR maximum of 1,600 nits, and peak brightness of 3,000 nits.

If BOE actually exits the supply chain, the possibility of Samsung Display gaining indirect benefits is also being discussed. According to domestic reports, BOE has recently been experiencing production disruptions due to quality and yield issues, and it is known that millions of units worth of OLED panel orders have been transferred to Samsung Display as a result.
