Market research firm TrendForce's latest report released in February 2026 predicts that global smartphone production this year will decrease by about 10% compared to last year, reaching approximately 1.135 billion units.

TrendForce cited the surge in bill of materials (BOM) costs as the main factor behind the production decline. The proportion of memory costs within smartphones, which previously remained at 10~15%, has recently soared to 30~40%, more than doubling.

The report also states that if market conditions worsen further, the production decline could exceed 15%.

TrendForce cited the surge in bill of materials (BOM) costs as the main factor behind the production decline. The proportion of memory costs within smartphones, which previously remained at 10~15%, has recently soared to 30~40%, more than doubling. In particular, the contract price for the mainstream specification '8GB RAM + 256GB storage' configuration is said to have surged by approximately 200% compared to the same period last year.
