A host on diyAudio ran an experiment to test whether listeners could tell the difference between audio played through professional audio copper wire, a banana, and wet mud,

specifically whether they could distinguish it.

Members were played four versions of an audio clip.

One was extracted from the original CD file,

and the other three were, respectively, 180cm of professional-grade audio copper wire,

20cm of wet mud,

a 120cm old microphone cable soldered to coins,

and a 13cm banana plug with the same 120cm cable mentioned above

The result was a correct-answer rate of 13.95%, showing that the tested audiophiles

couldn't accurately distinguish between the different 'interfaces.'
