Indonesia is the largest archipelagic nation in Southeast Asia, a country made up of 17,508 islands.
In a country composed of such a vast number of islands, you can experience distinctly different cultures and landscapes. Today I'd like to briefly go over some basic information about Indonesia!

Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic nation, with an area about 19 times that of Korea and a population of roughly 276 million, the 4th largest in the world.
It's a place where correspondingly large and diverse cultures live and breathe!
2๏ธโฃ Geographical features of Indonesia
- Territorial extent: It stretches 5,100km from east to west, and has 3 time zones!
- Major islands:
- Java: The political and economic center where the capital Jakarta is located
- Sumatra: A crossroads of European and Islamic culture
- Kalimantan: An island boasting abundant natural resources
- Sulawesi: The origin of spices and a center of maritime culture
- Papua: A treasure house of nature home to diverse wildlife

Indonesia is a country rich in natural resources, holding a variety of resources including crude oil, coal, gold, nickel and natural gas.
On top of that, thanks to its vast maritime territory (5.8 million kmยฒ) and diverse ecosystems, it is also rich in marine and timber resources!
4๏ธโฃ People and culture
Indonesia is a multicultural society with roughly 1,340 ethnic groups.
Among them, the Javanese and the Sundanese make up the main ethnic groups.
Islam is the dominant religion (87%), with Christianity and Hinduism also present, and Bahasa Indonesia is used as the official language.
5๏ธโฃ Indonesia's political system
Indonesia is a constitutional republic operating a presidential system, and the national ideology is Pancasila, an ideology that pursues 'unity in diversity'.
Its core values encompass freedom of belief, humanitarianism, unity, democracy and social justice.

- Economy: As a G20 member, its major industries include agriculture, oil and gas and tourism. Given that it's an island nation, marine-related industries are important too!

From 2024 the capital is being relocated from Jakarta to Nusantara, so Indonesia is entering a period of new change.
