Anthropic explains that when a pull request (PR) is opened, Code Review "deploys multiple agents to find bugs, verifies them to reduce false positives, and prioritizes them by severity." The results are summarized as a single comment in the PR, with inline comments provided for specific bugs.
Anthropic developed this feature after observing a 200% increase in code generated per engineer over the past year. They are currently using the system on nearly every PR and have seen a significant increase in meaningful review comments.
Following positive results from internal testing, Code Review is now available as a research preview to teams on paid plans and enterprise subscribers. However, due to its powerful capabilities, it's more expensive than lighter alternatives like Claude Code GitHub Action, with billing based on token usage.
