Recently, controversy arose in Indonesia regarding the imposition of a 12% Value Added Tax (PPN) on QR Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transactions. However, the Fiscal Policy Agency clarified that sellers bear the full burden of PPN in QRIS transactions, while consumers do not bear any additional tax. Despite the increase in value added tax, customer transactions using QRIS have no additional burden and, like other card transactions such as debit cards and e-money, are not affected by the PPN increase. Additionally, PPN does not apply to transportation services such as highway tolls.
