LG Uplus will push for a free USIM replacement and reset for all customers in relation to the controversy over the IMSI structure.
LG Uplus announced on the 17th that it will sequentially proceed with free USIM replacement and resetting for all mobile subscribers starting from April 13th.
After a competitor's hacking incident last year, LG Uplus confirmed that some subscriber IMSI structures reflected phone number information. IMSI is a unique number used to identify subscribers in the mobile communication network and is used when the terminal first connects to the network. Generally, even if the identifier is captured from the outside, it is difficult to directly connect it to a specific individual or phone number because it is designed based on random numbers.
However, LG Uplus has been confirmed to have maintained a structure in which some phone number information was reflected within the number system. In particular, this could lead to situations where certain measures, such as USIM formatting, are difficult to implement in existing IMSI systems.
