Anthropic announced an update that allows Claude Code and Claude Cowork tools to use your computer for tasks. This update enables AI to open files, use browsers, and run development tools.
When this feature is enabled, Claude will first use connectors for supported services like Google Workspace or Slack. However, it can still perform the given task even if connector usage is impossible. While Claude seeks consent before performing tasks, Anthropic recommends not using this feature when handling sensitive information.
Claude's computer use functionality will initially be available to Pro and Max users on macOS. As it is still in the early research stage, it is expected to change frequently based on user feedback. Additionally, it supports the Dispatch feature, which enables continuous conversations across devices for more convenient use.
Cowork was launched last January. It is a redesigned version of the Claude Code AI agent for programmers, making it easier for general users to utilize.
