TCL Unveils 2026 Models with 'Super QD' and RGB Mini LED
TCL announced new 2026 models today. The C8L (QM8L) and C7L (QM7L) feature 'Super Quantum Dot' technology, while the RM9L and RM7L are the company's first RGB LED LCD TVs.
The 2026 flagship model, previously unveiled as X11L at CES in January, is expected to be one of the highest-performing Mini LED LCD TVs on the market.
We first encountered 'Super Quantum Dot' technology through the X11L. This Chinese manufacturer believes that this technology surpasses LCD TV RGB LED technology in terms of picture quality. In other words, it is said to offer very high HDR brightness along with a similar level of color reproduction.
C8L with Super Quantum Dot and Dolby Vision 2
This enhanced quantum dot technology is not limited to the flagship model. It will also be applied to the C8L, C7L, and new Q7D Pro in Europe, and the QM8L, QM7L in North America.
The C8L (QM8L) has slightly more Mini LED local dimming zones than its predecessor, the C8K (QM8K), but the biggest improvement is in color reproduction. TCL claims a color gamut close to 100% of BT.2020 and a peak brightness of up to 6,000 nits. This will need to be verified through testing once review units are available.
Another major addition to the C8L (QM8L) is 'Dolby Vision 2 Max'. This will be introduced later via a firmware update and will support four HDMI 2.1 ports thanks to an upgrade from the MediaTek Pentonic 700 to the Pentonic 800 chip.
'Super Quantum Dot' Technology Expansion
The C7L (QM7L), a step down in grade, also retains 'Super Quantum Dot' technology for an expanded color gamut. However, it lacks the wider viewing angle WHVA LCD panel and Dolby Vision 2. It also has fewer local dimming zones and only two HDMI 2.1 ports.
Nevertheless, we expect the C7L (QM7L) to outperform LG and Samsung LCD models in the same price range in terms of both performance and price.
The Q7D Pro, with a simplified specification, will be TCL's most affordable LCD TV featuring 'Super Quantum Dot'. This model is confirmed for release in Europe. Detailed specifications can be found in the TV database below.
TCL is introducing Mini LED backlighting to its more affordable P series (P8L in Europe) for the first time. However, this model does not feature the enhanced 'Super' quantum dot technology. TCL has also launched the A440 Pro, which can display artwork when not in use. Unlike Samsung's edge-lit Mini LED models, the A440 Pro uses Mini LED local dimming and is expected to surpass the picture quality of 'Samsung The Frame'.
TCL's RGB Mini LED
While TCL claims that its 'Super Quantum Dot' technology surpasses the RGB LED technology used by Hisense, LG, Samsung, and Philips in their 2026 flagship LCD models, it is also offering RGB Mini LED models simultaneously. We first heard about the RM9L with RGB Mini LED back in January.
Now, a more affordable RGB Mini LED model, the RM7L, has been unveiled. It has fewer dimming zones and lower brightness, but still claims to achieve 100% of the BT.2020 color gamut. These models will be known as the RM series in Europe, North America, and other regions.
However, one drawback of the TCL RM series is that it does not support Dolby Vision 2. For this feature, you would need to step up to the C8L or X11L this year. On the other hand, these models currently allow for selection up to a maximum LCD size of 115 inches.
