Samsung Electronics America announced on July 4 (local time) that "Samsung Message application service will be discontinued in July 2026." It also officially recommended existing users to switch to 'Google Messages', which offers stronger security and various functions.
As a result of this measure, after July, general text sending and receiving functions except for emergency service numbers will be limited within the Samsung Message app. However, some users of older devices with Android 11 or lower versions may be able to maintain the existing app for a while due to compatibility issues.
This measure is aimed at accelerating the global standardization of RCS (Rich Communication Services), the next-generation messaging standard. Google Messages supports high-quality media transmission, read receipts, and real-time typing indication regardless of carrier restrictions. In particular, it is characterized by the significant enhancement of spam blocking and conversation summary functions through the integration of Gemini, Google's generative AI.
