According to industry sources on the 7th, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the three mobile carriers are discussing a rate plan overhaul centered on introducing a data safety option (QoS) with a speed of 400 Kbps for plans in the 20,000-won range. Negotiations are currently in their final stages, and as early as May, an integrated rate plan overhaul is expected to be prepared, followed by terms-of-service changes and reporting procedures.
QoS is a system that allows unlimited data use on the condition that speed is capped after the basic data allowance is used up. Currently, QoS only applies to plans of 30,000 won or more, so subscribers to low-cost plans under 30,000 won and senior plans must sign up for a separate add-on service or pay an extra fee to use unlimited data.
