In the future, when virtual characters created by new technologies such as generative artificial intelligence (AI) are used in advertising, it will be mandatory to clearly state that they are 'virtual characters,' according to revised guidelines.
The Fair Trade Commission announced on the 8th that it would administratively announce an amendment to the 'Guidelines for Labeling and Advertising of Recommendations and Guarantees' by the 28th of this month, which includes this obligation. Recently, as cases have increased where AI-created virtual doctors or professors recommend specific products online, there has been a growing concern that consumers may mistake them for real people. ······
Specifically, in text-centric media such as Naver blogs, phrases such as 'virtual characters included' should be clearly stated in the post title or introduction. Video media should display subtitles or other means to indicate this fact near the virtual character during its appearance.
