Apple's latest iOS update fixed a notification database flaw that allowed law enforcement to view deleted push notifications from individuals' iPhones or iPads. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) noted that Apple has required court orders when sharing notification data since 2023, explaining that this security flaw became a pathway for law enforcement agencies like the FBI to bypass Apple's strict privacy principles.

According to update notes shared by Apple, iOS 26.4.2 introduced "improved data deletion functionality" to address "an issue where notifications marked for deletion could unexpectedly remain on the device."
Additionally, the update can be installed on "iPhone 11 and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 8th generation and later, iPad mini 5th generation and later" models.
