Conflict over pursuing 2nd and 3rd facilities following the 1st
As data centers, the core infrastructure of the artificial intelligence (AI) era, continue to enter urban residential areas, conflicts are intensifying across various locations.
According to the real estate industry on the 1st, in Doksan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, conflicts between residents, the district office, and the project operator are reaching an extreme point over the construction of data centers.
While protests surrounding the 1st facility, which broke ground last October, continue daily, the recent promotion of additional construction of the 2nd and 3rd facilities has deepened the rift in conflict.
With existing disputes unresolved and the announcement of additional data center construction within the same area, resident opposition is expected to grow stronger.
A Geumcheon-gu Office official conveyed the field atmosphere, stating, "Following the recent surge in complaints related to existing data centers, protests regarding the new facility have been pouring in from the day of construction announcement."
