"OpenAI seems to be speeding up the launch of its first AI agent phone, aiming for mass production in 1H27 (first half of 2027). Potential driving factors include supporting the IPO story at the end of the year and intensifying competition in the AI agent phone market. Currently, MediaTek is more likely to be the sole processor supplier, and the device is expected to use a customized version of the Dimensity 9600 made with TSMC's N2P process node in 2H26 (second half of 2026).
Key specs include the ISP (image signal processor), which features an enhanced HDR pipeline to improve visual perception performance in real-world environments. Another key spec is a dual NPU (neural processing unit) architecture for different types of AI operations, LPDDR6 + UFS 5.0 to alleviate memory bottlenecks, and pKVM+ inline hashing for security. If the development schedule remains on track, cumulative shipments between 2027 and 2028 are expected to reach approximately 30 million units."
