At SID Display Week 2026, LG Display is showcasing its latest OLED technology and panels, including the 3rd generation Tandem OLED.

LG Display, the manufacturer of all WOLED panels for TVs, monitors, and other devices, recently split its OLED lineup into 'Tandem WOLED' for TVs and monitors, as reported by Flatpanels, and 'Tandem OLED' for notebooks and tablets.

The 2nd generation Tandem WOLED panel, first introduced on the LG G6 in January at CES 2026, was unveiled. Today's announcement relates to the current 3rd generation 'Tandem OLED'.

3rd Generation Tandem OLED

LG Display announced that the 3rd generation Tandem OLED achieves a brightness of 1,200 nits (not peak brightness) while improving power consumption and lifespan (over 15,000 hours).

Mass production is scheduled to begin this year with car panels, followed by expansion to IT panels such as notebooks and tablets. This, along with Samsung Display's AMOLED, will contribute to the introduction of OLED into mobile devices where LCD technology still dominates. This transition will significantly improve image quality and enable HDR.

720Hz OLED

"The 3rd generation Tandem OLED has 18% lower power consumption and a lifespan more than twice as long compared to the previous generation," explained LG Display. "These advancements are made possible by optimizing the movement of holes and electrons to minimize degradation while ensuring uniform image quality, and by applying deep blue dopants to further enhance color purity, color reproduction, brightness, low power consumption, and lifespan."

OLED for Robots

At SID Display Week 2026 in Los Angeles, LG Display also unveiled its first OLED solution for 'Physical AI', specifically humanoid robots. This panel operates within a temperature range of -30°C to 85°C and provides a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits. (Note: Samsung Display Unveils Brighter EL-QD (NanoLED) Prototype)

Tandem WOLED

LG Display is also highlighting its latest Tandem WOLED panels, first unveiled at CES 2026. These include a 4,500-nit panel for TVs, a 27-inch 540/720Hz monitor panel that has begun shipping to monitors, the world's first 27-inch RGB Stripe 5K OLED panel for future monitors, and a new 39-inch 5K OLED panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio.
