Police Investigate Kakao Pay Over Alleged Leak of 40 Million Users' Data to China
Kakao Pay is suspected of transmitting personal information, amounting to 54.2 billion entries, for 40.45 million users from 2018 to May 2024, to Alipay in China.
When iPhone users register Kakao Pay as a payment method, their mobile phone numbers and email addresses are sent to Apple.
The Financial Supervisory Service believes that this personal information leaked through Apple's use of Alipay to receive information. It has requested a criminal investigation.
