Here's a summary.
Google is reportedly reducing the free cloud storage capacity for some new accounts unless they register a phone number.
Google told another outlet, Android Authority, that "We are testing a new storage policy for new accounts created in some regions. This is intended to help us continue providing users with high-quality storage services while encouraging them to strengthen their account security and data recovery capabilities."
Until now, one of the biggest perks of signing up for Gmail or a Google account was 15GB of free cloud storage. This benefit has largely been offered unconditionally, but now users in certain regions will have to register a phone number to access the full storage capacity. Those who don't register will be limited to 5GB.
