According to VentureBeat, Anthropic says he will lead a team accelerating pretraining research using their AI model Claude.
Anthropic's pretraining head, Nicholas Joseph, said, "There is no one better suited for this role" in welcoming him.
Karpathy has been a prominent member since the founding of OpenAI in 2015 and later led the Autopilot computer vision team at Tesla. In 2023, he returned to OpenAI and formed mid-training and synthetic data generation teams.
He is a leading researcher in AI, having earned his doctorate from Stanford and completed internships at Google Brain and DeepMind.
He is also well known as an AI educator.
He has consistently released lectures on large language models and neural networks through YouTube, and in July 2024, he launched 'Eureka Labs,' an AI-native school where students can learn to train AI systems themselves.
However, in this announcement, he stated that "his passion for education remains and he plans to resume related activities when the time is right," suggesting that these activities will be suspended for now.
