Yamaha Launches Active Bookshelf Speaker NX-70A, Available in July: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI eARC
Japanese manufacturer Yamaha has unveiled the NX-70A, a pair of active connected bookshelf speakers. Combining Harmonious Diaphragm and Synergistic Drive technologies, this stereo system is the brand's first model to feature MusicCast protocol, complete wireless connectivity, HDMI eARC input, and YPAO automatic sound calibration.
Visually, the Yamaha NX-70A speakers adopt a simple yet elegant design. The enclosure features rounded shapes designed to minimize internal standing waves and is reinforced with a single block solid structure topped by a 5mm aluminum plate secured with screws.
Ergonomically, the main speaker's front panel features a display that specifically indicates the MC Link (MC Link) status, making everyday use more intuitive. Practically, the connection between the main speaker (right) and the sub speaker (left) can be done wirelessly to simplify indoor placement, and a wired connection via a 3m Ethernet cable is also available to expand bandwidth.

Technically, the Yamaha NX-70A is a 2-way bass reflex speaker. It features a 3cm tweeter and a 13cm woofer. The innovation lies in the use of Harmonious Diaphragm technology for all speaker units to guarantee perfect tonal uniformity. Consequently, the diaphragm is designed with a mixture of PBO Zylon fiber and paulownia wood material, the latter being directly inherited from the soundboard of the brand's grand pianos.
For amplification and reinforcement, Yamaha introduces Synergistic Drive, an integrated circuit. By directly connecting the speaker units to the amplifier circuitry, the system optimizes current flow, reducing distortion. The total output power is a generous 160W per speaker, distributed via bi-amping (100W for the woofer and 60W for the tweeter). Additionally, the system integrates Yamaha's proprietary acoustic optimization process, YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control), which uses the provided microphone to tailor the speaker's response to the limitations of the listening space.

Direct compatibility with Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect is included, as is Bluetooth (SBC/AAC codec).
High-resolution audio files (Wav, Flac, Alac, AIFF, DSD) stored on a local server or NAS are also fully supported. Finally, at the time of writing this article, an optional dedicated stand called Yamaha SPS-70A is also available.
The release is scheduled for late July in two colors (white or black) with a suggested retail price of €2,999.
