Samsung Display Unveils 40,000-Nit Micro OLED and 2nd Generation 3D OLED

The 40,000-nit RGB micro OLED was developed for headsets, while Samsung Display's 2nd generation glasses-free 3D OLED panel was designed for portable devices.
The micro OLED display used in Apple Vision Pro is rated at approximately 5,000 nits, but due to the display driving method and optical system, only a small portion reaches the user's eyes. Brighter panels are needed to improve headset image quality.
Samsung Display's new 1.3-inch micro OLED (OLEDoS as the company prefers to call it) has achieved a significant advancement by reaching 40,000 nits. Last year, Samsung Display unveiled a 20,000-nit micro OLED, up from 5,000 nits in 2024.
A Samsung Display representative stated that unlike white OLEDoS, RGB OLEDoS does not require a color filter, resulting in high light efficiency and longer lifespan. Due to these advantages, it is highly suitable for achieving excellent color reproduction and high brightness. He added that this is why RGB OLEDoS is considered the optimal solution for XR devices that demand sharp image quality in a miniaturized and lightweight form factor. Glasses-Free 3D OLED
At AWE USA 2026 held in California this week, Samsung Display is also exhibiting a 2nd generation 16-inch glasses-free 3D OLED panel based on light field technology.
FlatPanelsHD confirmed the first 3D OLED prototype in January 2025 and concluded that the glasses-free 3D image quality is noticeably superior to Samsung's currently available Odyssey 3D LCD monitor.
The 2nd generation 3D OLED reduces crosstalk (screen overlap effect) to 1% while increasing 3D resolution from 2K in 2025 to 2.4K. This panel uses eye-tracking technology to improve the glasses-free 3D effect. Samsung did not mention commercialization plans, but glasses-free 3D technology is an area in which the company is continuously investing.
