LG OLED G6 Makes Its Move with New Firmware, Pushing Brightness Up to 3000 Nits

One thing is very clear: this year's LG OLED G6 isn't just here to be admired. Equipped with Tandem OLED panels, it has achieved remarkable brightness improvements, and this is about the brand's flagship model that was already performing at the top tier in terms of HDR picture quality from day one. However, when competitors started releasing measurements and exceeding 3000 nits in the 10% window, it appears LG decided to take action as well.

And they've taken quite significant measures. LG released new firmware for the LG OLED G6, updating the version from 43.11.66 to 43.11.67, and according to the first measurements released by D-Nice, a highly respected AVForums user, quite interesting improvements in HDR brightness have been confirmed. The most eye-catching figure is 3004 nits achieved in the 10% window of HDR Filmmaker mode.

This doesn't mean the TV has become completely different or that the modes suddenly changed. The change that occurred is that LG has pushed hard on the accelerator in the area that is currently receiving the most attention—specifically, small and medium window brightness, which is primarily used when comparing the HDR performance of the most premium televisions.

Filmmaker Mode is the Biggest Beneficiary of This Update

According to the measurements shared by AVForums' D-Nice (measured in factory settings excluding white point calibration in the service menu), HDR Filmmaker mode is the mode that has changed the most due to this new firmware. Even in the previous 43.11.66 version, the LG OLED G6 was already recording 3322 nits at 1%, 3318 nits at 2%, 3145 nits at 5%, and 2540 nits at 10%. These figures were already very impressive in themselves.

In the new 43.11.67 firmware, these figures rise further: 3465 nits at 1%, 3458 nits at 2%, 3278 nits at 5%, and most importantly, it achieved 3004 nits at 10%. The jump in this 10% window will be the biggest talking point. This is because it's a highly representative measurement when discussing powerful HDR impact, reflections, explosions, highlight lights, or intense scenes with high luminosity.

Additionally, the 25% window improved from 1223 nits to 1482 nits, while larger windows show almost no change: 733 nits at 50%, 546 nits at 75%, and 454 nits on the full screen (100%). In other words, LG didn't touch the sustained brightness of large screens, but rather adjusted the performance in small and medium windows where HDR advantages can be best utilized without putting strain on the panel.

Changes to Cinema Home and Game Modes Are Much More Minimal

There was also an increase in HDR Cinema Home mode, but the extent was much smaller. The previous firmware recorded 1% at 2296 nits, 5% at 2259 nits, and 10% at 2239 nits. With the new firmware, these figures change to 2403 nits, 2398 nits, 2360 nits, and 2340 nits respectively. There was improvement, but not the same leap as seen in Filmmaker mode.

And as for the HDR Game mode that you're curious about, there was virtually no change. In fact, some windows even dropped slightly. The 10% window decreased from 2556 nits to 2533 nits, 5% from 2581 nits to 2558 nits, and 1% from 2613 nits to 2591 nits. While not a serious level, it's clear that this update focused on improving the mode that shows image quality most purely rather than exploding the brightness of the game mode.

This is perfectly understandable. Filmmaker mode is the mode used by most people to find the most faithful image to the original, without distorted processing and with a better controlled HDR curve. It's very good news that LG has given this mode a big margin. This is because it's not a show-off mode but one of the most frequently used modes for watching series or movies in everyday life.

LG Joins the 3000 Nit Battle in Earnest

LG OLED G6, new firmware boosts brightness to 3000 nits

The LG OLED G6 was already a monster, but this firmware update has made it even more formidable, giving us a more advantageous high ground in the brightness war we're experiencing in the 2026 high-end lineup. Most importantly, reaching 3000 nits in the 10% window of HDR Filmmaker mode means that this technology (OLED) has reached an area that was unthinkable just a short time ago.

Of course, it's important to remain calm. Maximum brightness isn't everything. Tone mapping, color accuracy, ABL, uniformity, processing, and how the TV performs when playing actual content are all crucial. But achieving these numbers while maintaining OLED's perfect blacks and pixel-level control is something to be excited about.

Ultimately, LG has been properly stimulated. And honestly, if the results are like this, then this war is a truly welcome thing. The LG OLED G6 has bulked up with just a simple firmware update, which is good news for those who already have this product at home or for those who were keeping an eye on it as one of the strong contenders of the year.
