An analysis shows that out of President Donald Trump's trade-related threats, only 1 out of 4 was actually followed through with action.
As President Trump recently threatened to raise tariffs on Korean products such as automobiles from 15% to 25%, Bloomberg News reported on the 27th (local time) that such threats may be nothing more than 'empty threats'.
Bloomberg Economics examined 49 tariff threat statements made by President Trump since the November 2024 presidential election and found that only about 27%, or approximately one-quarter of them, were fully implemented.
About 43% of the threats were withdrawn or had not yet been imposed. Among these, most followed a pattern of dragging things out before withdrawing or claiming to have gained concessions in negotiations and then backing down.
