Kang Hoon-sik, Chief Secretary to the Presidential Office visiting Canada as Strategic Economic Cooperation Special Envoy of President Lee Jae-myung, made consecutive contacts with top local government officials to fully support the 'submarine order acquisition battle.'
Chief Secretary Kang said on the 29th through Facebook that he delivered President Lee's personal letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and met consecutively with the Prime Minister's Chief Secretary, Defense Minister, Deputy Minister of Defense Procurement, Minister of Industry, and Minister of Finance to discuss submarine business and security and industrial cooperation.
Chief Secretary Kang said he introduced Korean submarines to them, saying "We design and manufacture with the mindset that my son and daughter ride in it" and "That's why we want to make it like a '5-star hotel.'"
He continued, "If you think my daughter and son are on board, it's a given that even in emergency situations, a space is provided where they can rest comfortably without injury" and emphasized "Of course, there is performance reliability to operate without failure in the deep and cold ocean."
He also introduced the reactions of Canadian government officials.
Defense Minister David McGuinty, who had once hit his head in a submarine and was seriously injured, related that when he toured the submarine under construction at Geoje Hanwha Shipyard last year, he had no concerns about injury. Chief Secretary Kang conveyed that he said, "I wanted to take it to Canada right then and there."
