The Korea Cultural Center in Indonesia (Director Kim Yong-woon) held the 'East Kalimantan Korean-Indonesian Film Festival' from November 28th to 30th in Samarinda and Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
This event was planned to introduce Korean films to local residents in culturally isolated areas and expand the popularity of Hallyu (Korean Wave).
Three Korean commercial films and two Indonesian films were screened at the festival. In particular, the Indonesian film 'My Annoying Brother,' a remake of the Korean film 'Brother' (2016), received a great response from the audience and attracted attention.
During the event, a meeting was also held with the local Hallyu community in Samarinda. At this meeting, future cooperation plans between the Korea Cultural Center and the community were discussed, and the possibility of various exchanges based on Hallyu content was explored.
A Korea Cultural Center official said, "Through this event, local residents had the opportunity to experience the charm of both Korean and Indonesian films and the cultural diversity of both countries." They added, "We plan to continue planning various events so that Hallyu can reach more people in the future."
This film festival not only provided an opportunity for East Kalimantan residents to directly experience Hallyu content but also received positive reviews for sharing the film cultures of both countries and opening a new chapter in cultural exchange.
