Overseas Koreans - Now Access Domestic Online Services Easily Without a Korean Cell Phone or Visiting an Overseas Mission!
The Overseas Koreans Service Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a pilot service for 'Overseas Korean Non-Face-to-Face Identity Verification Service (Overseas Korean Authentication Center)' using electronic passports and overseas residency information, enabling overseas Koreans to use domestic online services more conveniently. The service began on November 28, 2024.
ㅇ Pilot Service Overview
- Overseas Koreans can issue non-face-to-face private certificates using overseas residency information and electronic passports.
- During the pilot period, certificate issuance will be prioritized. After the official service launch in 2025, it is expected to be applied to various domestic online services such as △e-government services △financial services △non-face-to-face medical field △online education △online shopping.
ㅇ Eligible Users: South Korean nationals who meet all of the following conditions:
① Possession of a resident registration number ② Overseas Korean registration ③ Possession of a valid South Korean electronic passport
ㅇ Issuable Certificates and Launch Date: (11.28~) Toss/Shinhan Bank, (December) KB Kookmin/Woori/Hana Bank
- The exact launch date and time will be announced separately by each issuing institution.
- In the future, additional certificates such as Naver/Kakao will be expanded in consultation with relevant institutions.
ㅇ Issuance Method: Install the certificate issuance institution's app on the overseas Korean's mobile device and issue it non-face-to-face.
Through this service, overseas Koreans can access domestic online services more easily and conveniently without visiting an overseas mission for certificate issuance or verifying their identity with a domestic cell phone. We hope for your interest in this service.
