Apple has proposed to invest 100 million dollars (approximately 140 billion won) in its Bandung factory to lift Indonesia's ban on iPhone 16 sales. This represents a tenfold increase from Apple's initial proposal of 10 million dollars and will be used for smartphone research and development as well as the production of accessory components for Apple devices. The Indonesian government banned iPhone 16 sales by refusing to issue domestic component level certificates (TKDN) to smartphones with less than 40 percent domestically-sourced components in order to protect domestic industry. Through this investment, Apple aims to improve relations with the Indonesian government and resume iPhone 16 sales.
