Filipina Mary Jane Veloso was sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug trafficking but was repatriated to her home country thanks to the efforts of the Philippine government. Veloso argued that she transported drugs while looking for a housekeeping job and the Philippine government also worked for leniency, including arresting the recruiter who allegedly deceived her into transporting drugs. Eventually, Veloso was repatriated to the Philippines after 14 years and was released following a pardon decision by President Ferdinand Marcos. Veloso regained her freedom after 16 years and is looking forward to reuniting with her two sons.
