JICAF 2026 Draws New Worlds Through Illustrations and Collaboration

5

Jakarta Illustration & Creative Arts Fair (JICAF) 2026 opened in Jakarta on 17 September 2026 under the theme The World We Draw, bringing illustrators, designers, brands and creative communities together through exhibitions, product collaborations and interactive projects.

Now in its fourth edition, the fair looks at what happens when illustration leaves the page and enters fashion, cycling, food culture, materials and audience participation. JICAF has steadily widened its scope since its first edition. Illustration still leads the programme, but this year it shares the floor with fashion, cycling, food culture and other creative fields. .

“The World We Draw is about how every creator has their own world to share,” said Sunny Gho, Co-Founder and Fair Director of JICAF. “For us, JICAF is a space where these worlds can meet, while opening opportunities for works, ideas and creativity to connect with more people.”

That range can be seen in the participating artists, including Rinaldo Hartanto x LEKAT, Stereoflow, Machine56, Pronto Pixel, BART and Fluxcup. Their work moves between distinct visual languages while showing how illustration can travel into different formats without losing the character of the artist behind it.

Stereoflow, for instance, has teamed up with Psychloop for a Special Drop shaped by their shared interest in cycling. Drawing from their experience within cycling communities, the collaboration turns visual identity into products designed for everyday riders, combining utility with the humour and personality associated with both names.

According to Stereoflow, the project grew naturally from that shared interest. “Through the Special Drop at JICAF 2026, we want to create products that are functional for everyday cyclists while carrying the creativity and spirit that can make cycling more enjoyable.”

Fluxcup takes audience participation in a stranger direction through DUBKIL PROJECT, or Dubbing Kilat. Visitors are recorded directly at the exhibition before Fluxcup replaces their audio in roughly ten seconds with his recognisable absurdist and nihilist dubbing style. There are no scripts, retakes or requests for revisions. Participants receive the result immediately, while selected clips will later be compiled and shared through @flux.cup on Instagram.

“For this exhibition, I am bringing my signature style through DUBKIL PROJECT,” Fluxcup explained. “Visitors can record a video on site and the audio will be redubbed in around ten seconds with my absurd and nihilist style. There is no script, retake or request. The final result immediately becomes part of the project.”

Elsewhere, the fair shows how illustration can take physical form through fashion and craft. Rinaldo Hartanto’s collaboration with LEKAT draws on folklore and volcanic imagery, using leftover LEKAT fabrics for patchwork pieces including bags and caps. The process places existing materials into a new visual language while connecting illustration with textile construction.

JICAF 2026 is also hosting the launch of Disney Jajan, a collaboration between Disney Indonesia and local illustrators facilitated by enMasse, the organiser of JICAF. Ykha Amelz, WD Wily and Liunic each reinterpret Disney characters Stitch and Angel through Indonesian jajanan and street-food culture, giving familiar figures a distinctly local setting through their respective illustration styles.

Building-material company TACO joins the programme as a brand partner, introducing another material-led element to the fair. Its involvement explores how surfaces and building materials can enter creative processes and become part of visual experimentation outside their conventional architectural uses.

For Sunny Gho, these encounters sit at the centre of this year’s theme. “The World We Draw is about the world that takes shape when different perspectives meet. We want JICAF to continue being a place where creators can find audiences, build connections and see more possibilities for their work.”

With exhibitions, limited product drops, live participation and collaborations ranging from textiles to Disney characters, JICAF 2026 gives visitors several ways into contemporary Indonesian illustration. Those heading to the fair can come for the finished work, watch some of it take shape on site, and leave with a clearer idea of just how far an illustration can travel once other creative fields enter the conversation.
