The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) rejected Korean Air's request to ease the 'seat supply maintenance obligation' imposed as a condition for corporate mergers. Korean Air argued that air passenger demand had contracted due to events such as the Middle East war and requested exemption or relaxation of seat maintenance obligations, but the FTC judged that there was no overall demand contraction based on its investigation results. In addition, the FTC is expected to pursue a prosecution complaint, citing that Korean Air engaged in obstruction of investigation by deleting related data during the FTC's investigation process. Korean Air stated that there was no obstruction of investigation and announced that it would review countermeasures. The FTC plans to continuously monitor the implementation of corrective measures for the Korean Air-Asiana merger.
