Recently, with the increase in pet-owning households, consumer complaints related to veterinary hospital use have been rapidly increasing. According to the Korea Consumer Agency, a total of 128 cases were received from 2021 to June this year, and most of them were disputes over medical malpractice. Various cases of medical malpractice, such as hip dislocation during X-ray examination, have been reported. Consumers are having difficulty proving medical malpractice due to information asymmetry and communication difficulties, and the dispute resolution rate among completed consumer remedy processing is only 26.4%. The Korea Consumer Agency emphasized the protection of consumer rights by requiring sufficient explanation before surgery and recording the condition of pets before and after treatment.
