A helicopter carrying 8 people went missing just 8 minutes after takeoff in South Kalimantan Province on the Indonesian island of Borneo. The helicopter departed from Kotabaru Airport and was heading to Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan Province when it lost contact with the air traffic control center. Local rescue authorities have dispatched ground and aerial search teams, including firefighting helicopters, to locate the missing passengers. Indonesia, consisting of many islands, heavily relies on air transportation; however, the country has experienced several aviation accidents in the past.
